Audra Mcdonald is an exceptional artist in terms of the diversity and scope of her skills as a performer and singer. Audra McDonald, winner of the prestigious six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was selected as one the Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People. The president Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the highest honor in America for her achievements in this field. With a stunning soprano with an extraordinary talent for dramatic truth-telling She is equally comfortable on Broadway and on the opera scene as she is in her film or television performances. In addition to her theatre work, she has worked as a singer and concert performer. She regularly performs in the best venues of the world. McDonald was born into a musically inclined household in Fresno, CA. She was a classical singer who received training at her school, the Juilliard School of New York. The first time she won a Tony Award in 1994 for the Best Performance of an Actress in a show for Carousel, at Lincoln Center Theater. Over the next four years, she took home two additional Tony Awards for the category of prominent actress. The show she was a part of Broadway premier productions of Terrence McNally's musical Ragtime as well as Terrence McNally's play Master Class in 1996. It was an amazing amount of three Tony Awards by the time she was 30. In 2004 she won her fourth Tony acting alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and In 2012, she was awarded her fifth Tony Award, and her first win in the leading actress category in the role of her lead for her role in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. The year 2014 saw her make Broadway history, becoming an official Tony Awards most decorated performer after she received her sixth award for her performance as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role which also served as the platform for her Olivier Award nomination 2017 debut performance in the London's West End. She also set the record for the most award wins by an actor. McDonald was also seen in The Secret Garden (1993), Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV (2004) The 110th Shade (2007 Twelfth night (2009) and Shuffle Along The Making of the Musical Shock of 1921 and Everything That Followed (2016). She was the very first actress to be awarded in each of the four acting categories. It was the Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say The Delany Sisters The First 100 Years that first introduced McDonald to television audiences in her role as a dramatic performer. McDonald was later cast as a co-star alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber in the lauded 1999 remake by ABC and Disney of Annie and then in 2000 she was a frequent guest on the NBC's cult series Law & Order Special Victims Unit. After receiving her debut Emmy nomination for her role in the HBO film version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Wit written by Mike Nichols and starring Emma Thompson McDonald returned to the network's television program in 2003 on the political drama Mister Sterling, produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. and which starred Josh Brolin. In 2006, McDonald joined the WB's The Bedford Diaries. The next year she was an occasional actor on NBC's Kidnapped. McDonald won a 4th Emmy for her role as Lady Day in Emerson's Bar and Grill on HBO in 2016. The actress starred with Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed drama produced by Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. First appearing as U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in 2009, on CBS's legal drama The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald reprised the character (now named Liz Reddick) as a regular on the season of The Good Fight on Paramount+ with three Critics Choice Award nominations for her role. The actress is currently acting as a guest in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which premieres on HBO.
